PUTRAJAYA: "It was not me." That was the blunt response from Rafizi Ramli following allegations by businessman Victor Chin regarding a RM9.5mil payment supposedly requested by a Pakatan Harapan MP to settle a "corporate mafia" scandal.
In a Facebook post, the former Pakatan deputy president joked that the only thing he had "received" was extra body fat from the Aidilfitri celebrations.
"But since we are still in the Raya mood, I will only comment tomorrow," he said.
The allegations surfaced after Chin, also known as Chin Boon Loong, produced a 40-page document detailing a timeline of events. He claimed a Pakatan MP asked for RM10mil to resolve the issue, though he only managed to provide RM9.5mil initially.
Chin alleged the final RM500,000 was withheld because the promised resolution never materialised.
The "corporate mafia" claims involve allegations that senior MACC officers orchestrated intimidation campaigns. These campaigns purportedly pressured executives and shareholders of public-listed firms to resign or sell their shares at steep discounts to a network of connected businessmen.
The MACC issued a statement yesterday denying the claims, labelling them an attempt to tarnish the credibility of its investigations and enforcement actions.
The anti-corruption body maintained the allegations were baseless and likely originated from an anonymous online blog with no clear accountability.
On March 16, the police confirmed raiding several premises belonging to Chin in Kemensah and Sungai Long, Kajang.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the raid, conducted alongside the Securities Commission (SC), was part of an investigation under Amla.
In a separate statement, Chin urged Mohd Khalid to uncover the truth behind the alleged scandal.
