Investigation ordered into viral LGBT post in Merlimau, says Melaka education exco chairman

MELAKA: An immediate investigation has been ordered into a viral social media post allegedly promoting LGBT content during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration in Merlimau, says Datuk Rahmad Mariman.

The state committee chairman for education, higher learning and religious affairs said checks were being carried out, including to verify the exact location of the alleged incident.

He said the post uploaded on Threads stated that the incident took place in Kampung Batu Gajah in Merlimau, but the information had yet to be confirmed.

"An investigation will be conducted immediately to verify the matter, including the location of the incident if it occurred. We don't want to jump to conclusions but will allow a thorough and proper investigation to be carried out," he said on Tuesday (March 24).

Rahmad said the probe would also include legal scrutiny to determine whether any laws had been breached and what action could be taken against those involved.

"Any action will be determined based on the outcome of the investigation and in accordance with existing legal provisions," he said.

Earlier, a photograph went viral on social media showing an individual posing with another man, both dressed in matching pink outfits.

The post was accompanied by the caption "Jodoh Lebaran Dah Tiba. Alhamdulillah", along with a pinned location in Kampung Batu Gajah.

The post drew mixed reactions online, with some users criticising it for allegedly promoting LGBT content during the Hari Raya celebration.
