S'wak churches association extends Hari Raya greetings

KUCHING: The Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) has extended greetings and well wishes to Muslims celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Its chairman Datuk Danald Jute said Hari Raya in Sarawak, and Malaysia as a whole, was not just a celebration for one community but a shared moment of joy and thanksgiving that strengthens relationships.

"Indeed our strength lies in our ability to celebrate one another's milestones.

"Our unique tradition of open houses reflects a spirit that transcends boundaries regardless of religious, ethnic or social backgrounds – to share together in a spirit of peace, acceptance and reconciliation," he said in his Hari Raya message.

Danald said sharing one another's celebrations strengthened the social fabric that made Sarawak a beacon of hope and stability in the face of strife and divisions.

He said mutual respect was the foundation for a brighter future, adding that the tradition of seeking forgiveness (by including "maaf zahir dan batin" in the Hari Raya greeting) served as a powerful tool for healing and harmony.

"As you celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri, we pray that your homes be filled with joy, your hearts with peace and your tables overflowing with manifold blessings," he said.
