KOTA BARU: Kelantan has recorded more than 60,000 Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) registrations, the highest in the country, says state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat.
He said this was the result of ongoing police campaigns across districts and rising public awareness on the importance of sharing crime-related information.
“To date, Kuala Krai has recorded the highest number of registrations in Kelantan.
“Through VSP, the public can share crime information and notify police when they are away during festive seasons for home monitoring,” he said after launching Ops Selamat.
DCP Mohd Yusoff said a key feature of the app is the ‘panic button’ which allows users to alert authorities during emergencies such as house break-ins.
He also said several traffic lights along main roads have been switched to amber flashing mode to ease congestion.
He added that 42 hotspot locations and 67 blackspots have been identified, with eight critical routes given special attention, including Kota Baru, Kuala Krai, Pasir Mas, Pasir Puteh, Machang, Tanah Merah and Gua Musang.
“Twenty officers and 150 traffic personnel will be on duty throughout Ops Selamat from Thursday until March 24,” DCP Mohd Yusoff said.
