IPOH: A 21-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run accident while assisting a friend in refuelling a stalled car along KM2.6 of the East–West Highway (Gerik–Jeli) on Monday (March 16).
Gerik OCPD Supt Abdul Samad Othman said the incident occurred at about 5.15pm when a Proton Saga driven by another 21-year-old man ran out of fuel at the location.
He said the driver had contacted his friend, the victim, to deliver petrol.
“The victim arrived at the scene on a motorcycle and was assisting in refuelling the car by the roadside when they were suddenly struck by an unidentified white vehicle travelling from Jeli towards Gerik,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (March 17).
He said victim sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Gerik Hospital for treatment.
“However, he was pronounced dead at about 10.50pm while receiving treatment. The Proton Saga driver was unhurt.
“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
