Actress’ hubby denies cheating charges

SEREMBAN: The husband of a TV actress claimed trial at separate courts here to two charges of cheating two individuals of almost RM300,000.

At the Sessions Court, Mohd Apri Hazreen Mohd Sapri, 41, pleaded not guilty to a charge of deceiving a 56-year-old businessman of RM270,811.

The accused had allegedly conned the businessman into believing that he could get him several plots of land from the Selangor government.

He was charged with committing the offence between April 2 and Nov 12 last year at a bank here.

The money was allegedly transferred into his wife’s account.

Mohd Apri Hazreen was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries a jail term of between one and 10 years, caning and a fine upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nadia Ezzati Mohd Zainal told the court the prosecution was offering the accused a bail of RM50,000 with one surety.

She also asked the court to order the accused to surrender his passport, stay away from witnesses and report at the nearest police station once a month until his case is disposed of.

Mohd Apri Hazreen, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a lower bail as he had to provide for his mother, nine children and his wife who was unemployed.

He also told the court he suffered from multiple health problems.

Judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam then set bail at RM25,000 with one surety and allowed the other applications by the prosecution.

At the Magistrate’s Court, Mohd Apri Hazreen pleaded not guilty to a charge of deceiving a 48-year-old retired army officer of RM23,120 in exchange for a datukship from Terengganu.

He was charged with committing the offence at Seremban 2 from Jan 22 to Nov 9 last year.

Deputy public prosecutor Nik Nur Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi told the court her team was offering a bail of RM3,000 with one surety pending next mention, which was allowed by magistrate Nurul Saqinah.

Both cases were fixed for mention on April 15.
