Company director nabbed in RM100,000 graft probe

KUALA LUMPUR: A company director under suspicion of soliciting and accepting about RM100,000 in bribes has been detained by graft busters.

The bribes were from a property development company in exchange for handing over land belonging to former plantation workers in Selangor for commercial development.

Sources said the male suspect, in his 60s, was detained at about 12.20pm on Wednesday (March 11) when he arrived at the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office to give his statement.

"Initial investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly committed the offence between 2020 and 2025 by handing over land owned by 136 plantation workers without their knowledge or consent.

"The suspect, who was the trustee for the eight-acre land, is believed to have received bribes several times over five years. He is also suspected to have received about RM5mil from the land acquisition," the so I've said.

Selangor MACC director Mohd Azwan Ramli confirmed the arrest when contacted, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.

He said the suspect is expected to be brought before the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (March 12) for a remand application.
