Wisma Putra issues travel advisory for Malaysians in seven Middle East countries

KUALA LUMPUR: The Foreign Ministry has issued a travel advisory for Malaysians in seven countries in the Middle East.

Wisma Putra said renewed military strikes and heightened security responses in parts of the region have caused airspace closures and flight disruptions in Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In an advisory issued on Sunday (March 1), Wisma Putra advised Malaysians in the region to defer all non-essential travel to in these countries until the situation stabilises.

"Malaysians in the region are strongly advised to anticipate sudden changes to flight schedules, possible airport closures and travel restrictions, and to make immediate contingency arrangements where necessary," the ministry said.

The ministry also strongly urged those in or near affected areas to exercise a high degree of vigilance, avoid areas of military activity and public gatherings, and strictly adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
