PUTRAJAYA: Students must deepen their knowledge and adapt to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said young people today face high expectations in a fast-changing world driven by technology and digital transformation.
“Every era demands something new from us. The era of today’s youth is one marked by immense and unprecedented change.
“We have no choice. If we wish to progress, we must accept the reality that we cannot remain at the old level.
“Our thinking, working, learning and actions must keep pace with the speed of the times,” he said during the breaking of fast event at Seri Perdana with the Higher Education Ministry and Education Ministry on Saturday (Feb 28).
Anwar added that knowledge must be upheld as a core value, not only as technical expertise but as a foundation shaped by ethics and humanity.
He also said that responsibility for change does not rest solely on students, but also on educators and community leaders.
“This is not only a challenge for students but also for leaders, teachers and society as a whole. Change is urgent and demands total effort from everyone,” he said.
Touching on the economy, Anwar acknowledged recent gains, including stronger investment performance, a firmer ringgit and low inflation, but said persistent grassroots issues remained unresolved.
“Yes, we recorded impressive economic growth, but school toilets were unusable. In 2023 alone, nearly RM1bil was allocated to repair school toilets, and much has been resolved, though more needs to be done,” he said.
As such, he reminded students that knowledge must be pursued alongside integrity and moral responsibility, warning against the erosion of values in public discourse.
He also said the fasting month of Ramadan could serve as a period of renewal, encouraging Muslims to deepen their understanding of the Quran while continuing to help those in need.
“Let this be a time not only to strengthen devotion, but also to assist the people whether in hospitals, in schools and in daily life and fulfilling our responsibilities as leaders, teachers and students,” he said.
