KANGAR: A civil servant pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here Friday (Feb 27) to five counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving a total of RM416,503.91 between 2020 and 2024.

Rohaliza Roais, 37, entered the plea before Judge Datuk Nu'aman Mahmud Zuhudi.

On the first count, she was charged  in her capacity as an account manager of an Area Farmers’ Organisation (PPK) in Perlis, with dishonestly misusing the organisation’s receipts amounting to RM116,299.61 in 2020.

She is alleged to have breached procedures in the cash receipt recording system.

For the other four charges, she was charged with committing the same act involving RM83,207.60 (2021), RM86,890.20 (2022), RM87,369.75 (2023) and RM42,736.75 (2024).

All the offences were allegedly committed at the PPK office.

The charges were framed under Section 409 of the Penal Code, which provides imprisonment of between two and 20 years, whipping and a possible fine upon conviction.

The court allowed her bail of RM10,000 with one surety and also ordered her to surrender her passport, as well as report to the Perlis Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office on the first day of every month.

The court set March 31 for mention for the submission of documents.

The prosecution was conducted by MACC Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Atikah Ab Rashid and Perlis MACC Prosecuting Officer S. Sujatha, while lawyer Datuk Ghazali Cha represented Rohaliza.- Bernama
