About 90% of complaints on roads resolved, says Ahmad

ABOUT 90% of complaints received through the MyJalan application between August 2023 and January this year have been resolved, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan (pic).

The Deputy Works Minister said this comprised about 15,160 cases out of the 16,671 reports falling under the ministry’s jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, 37,384 cases received were not under the Works Ministry’s purview, making up almost 70% of the total reports received by the MyJalan application.

Ahmad said the ministry employs a “no wrong door policy”, where all complaints about roads are accepted, regardless of whether those roads are under the Works Ministry.

This includes municipal roads, agricultural roads, private roads, and even roads under the Sabah and Sarawak administrations.

“While we do not manage those roads, we forward them to the related ministries.

“For example, if it is an agricultural road, we send it to the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry. If it is a rural road, we send it to the Rural and Regional Development Ministry.

“We are all in the same government and will work together to resolve the rakyat’s issues,” he said during Question Time in Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

He was responding to a supplementary question by Manndzri Nasib (BN-Tenggara) who asked about the number of reports lodged with the MyJalan application, how many were resolved, as well as how the ministry handles complaints unrelated to assets under its jurisdiction.

On a related matter, Ahmad said maintenance along federal roads covers two scopes, namely routine and periodic works.

Routine maintenance covers tackling potholes, road shoulders, drainage, and overgrown weeds.

Periodic maintenance, meanwhile, refers to pavement and non-pavement works, based on approved allocations from time to time.

“All works are monitored by the Public Works Department, ensuring they comply with standard operating procedures,” he said.

Regarding road accidents, Ahmad said carelessness remained the biggest contributor to fatalities, according to findings from the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros).

“This includes speeding, driving recklessly and even micro-sleeping. Road conditions accounted for 13.2% of accidents, while vehicle conditions accounted for 6.2%,” he said when responding to queries from Jamaluddin Yahya (PN-Pasir Salak).
