Factory manager, engineers among 94 foreign workers arrested in Shah Alam raid

SHAH ALAM: A factory manager and 11 engineers were among 94 foreign workers arrested by the Immigration Department during a raid at a factory here on Thursday (Feb 12) under Ops Mahir.

Selangor Immigration director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin said that during the raid at around 11.30am, the manager and engineers attempted to hide and flee to avoid inspection, along with more than 300 other foreign workers.

He said the operation, involving 26 immigration officers, was conducted following public reports regarding the presence of foreign workers at the factory since last year.

Khairrul Aminus said among the offences detected were holding only social visit passes and failing to produce any valid work permits under the employer's name.

"All the foreign workers were sorting out batteries according to categories during the raid, while the manager and engineers were working in the management offices.

"Inspections were carried out on 340 foreign nationals, 94 of whom, aged 22 to 62, will be sent to the Semenyih Immigration Depot for further action," he said in a statement on Friday. - Bernama
