Sabah Energy Commission seizes RM300,000 worth of electrical goods without Sirim labels

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Energy Commission seized electrical equipment valued at over RM300,000 from two premises in the city that were being sold without Sirim safety labels.

The owners of the premises were also fined following the crackdown, which began on Wednesday and ended at about 3am on Thursday (Feb 11).

According to the commission’s chief operating officer, Ridwan Saham, this first-of-its-kind raid was carried out following the issuance of a prohibition notice in December 2025.

He said the operation was conducted to ensure that electrical equipment complies with legal requirements under Regulation 107 of the Electricity Supply Regulations 2024 (PPBE 2024).

“However, several premises were still found to be non-compliant with the notice and continued to sell electrical equipment that did not meet legal requirements,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Under Subregulation 110(2) of the PPBE 2024, any party found guilty of selling consumer electrical equipment that does not comply with legal requirements may, upon conviction, be fined up to RM20,000, jailed for up to two years, or both.

The raid involved 23 commission officers, assisted by four officers from Sirim Bhd.
