150-year-old temple gets land rights

PERAK has allocated 0.7ha of land to a temple in Dennistown, Parit Buntar, Makkal Osai reported.

The temple, Sri Maha Muthu Mariamman, has a 150-year history.

It served the community that lived and worked in the area, which was once a rubber plantation and later an oil palm plantation, state exco member Datuk A. Sivanesan said.

The state government exercised its authority to allocate the land for the temple and a new multipurpose hall during the town redevelopment planning, he said.

The land has been gazetted following the required procedures, through the committee’s efforts and with the land office’s cooperation.

Sivanesan was speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony for the new hall, which is expected to cost RM4.8mil.

The state will provide RM50,000, with the committee to raise more funds, he said.
