Additional 12,600 KL-JB ETS tickets for CNY celebrations, says Loke

KUALA LUMPUR: An additional 12,600 Electric Train Service (ETS) will be up for grabs for the KL Sentral - JB Sentral - KL Sentral route ahead of the coming Chinese New Year celebrations, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

He said the tickets will go on sale beginning 12.15am on Wednesday (Feb 11), adding that the tickets are available for the travel period between Feb 13 and Feb 22.

According to Loke, this follows the availability of the seventh ETS3 set, which has just been approved.

Currently, all ETS tickets for the travel period between Feb 13 and Feb 22 have been completely sold out.

The additional 26,460 tickets readied by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) have already been snapped up as well.

“Overall, KTMB has readied an additional 46,404 train tickets for the Chinese New Year travel period - a 426% increase compared to last year (8,820).

“The additional tickets this year are owing to the seven new ETS3 sets as well as increased ETS frequency during this travel period,” he said during question time in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Feb 10).

Loke said the Electric Multiple Unit Plus (EMU+) service will also be introduced during the coming Chinese New Year travel period.

He also noted that only 43% of tickets have been sold.

“A Six Car Set will also be mobilised for the KL Sentral-Ipoh-KL Sentral route, allowing an additional 24 trips,” he said.

On Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, the minister added that 118,823 or 53% of the 224,196 available ETS seats have already been taken.

The seats cover the period between March 13 and March 29.

“Any sale of additional train tickets will only be announced once the current number of seats sells out,” he said.

Loke was responding to a question by Lee Chuan How (PH-Ipoh Timor), who asked about ETS ticket sales and additional services for the coming Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
