Restaurant manager nabbed for hiring Chinese nationals without work permits


KOTA KINABALU: A local woman was arrested for allegedly employing nine Chinese nationals without valid work permits at a restaurant in Labuan.

Labuan police chief Supt Mohd Hamizi Halim said the woman, who is the manager at the restaurant where seven men and two women from China were being employed with proper work permits as  waiters and cooks during the raid on Feb 5.

In a statement on Saturday (Feb 7), he said the Chinese nationals, aged 18 to 53, were believed to have been working at the restaurant since July 2025 without work permits.

He said police have obtained a three-day remand order from the Magistrate's Court until Feb 9 to facilitate investigations under the Immigration Act 1959/63 into employers of foreigners without proper work permits.
