Travel agency head claims trial to swindling man of nearly RM42,000

SEREMBAN: A 38-year-old travel agency director has claimed trial in the Magistrate's Court here for misappropriating RM41,940 last year.

Siti Fairuz Omar pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to her before Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli on Friday (Feb 6).

She was charged with dishonestly using money belonging to a 42-year-old man at SIGC Paroi between Sept 7 and Nov 19 last year.

She was charged under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which provides for between six months' and five years' jail, caning and a fine upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nik Nur 'Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi offered bail of RM6,000 with one surety pending next mention.

The accused, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a minimum bail as she did not have a fixed income.

"I only run a food stall now and have to provide for my sickly mother.

"I have also cooperated with the police since the investigations began," she said.

Nurul Saqinah then fixed bail at RM2,500 with one surety.

She fixed March 10 for next mention, submission of documents and the appointment of counsel.
