AKPS seizes over RM285,000 worth of frozen chicken with dubious halal documentation

ALOR SETAR: The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) seized 25,920kg of frozen chicken worth RM285,120 at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Safety (ICQS) Complex on Thursday (Feb 5).

Bukit Kayu Hitam AKPS biosecurity division chief Rohaimishah Che Me said the seizure was carried out at 8.30pm after irregularities were found in the halal documentation during inspections.

“Physical checks found the reference number on the halal certificate did not match the information on the packaging and boxes of the products,” she said in a statement on Friday (Feb 6), adding that the consignment was believed to have contained inaccurate or confusing information for officials.

The entire consignment was seized and confiscated for further action, she said, adding the case was being investigated under Section 13 of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011.

She reiterated the agency was committed to ensuring food security, compliance with the law and the protection of consumer rights, especially at the country’s entry points. – Bernama
