Man fakes heist to hide boss’ missing RM5k

KUALA LUMPUR: What was initially reported as a street robbery was later found to be a fabrication, after police uncovered that the complainant had lodged a false report to cover up missing money.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Khairul Anuar Khalid said a 38-year-old man lodged a police report on Jan 19, claiming he was robbed along Jalan Tanjong 1 while carrying cash and items belonging to his employer.

According to the report, the man alleged that two men on a motorcycle approached him, with one of them pointing a knife before making off with his bag.

However, subsequent investigations revealed that no such robbery had taken place.

“Investigations found that the report made by the complainant, claiming that he had been robbed and that cash and personal belongings amounting to RM5,000 belonging to his employer were taken, was untrue.”

ACP Khairul Anuar said the man had fabricated the incident to avoid repaying the money to his employer.

“The case is still under investigation under Section 182 of the Penal Code.”
