Rapid Rail spent RM1.8mil to extend operating hours for Bukit Jalil events last year

KUALA LUMPUR: Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd spent about RM1.8mil last year to extend rail operating hours for major events in Bukit Jalil, the Dewan Rakyat was told.

The Transport Ministry said operation hours were extended 11 times last year to support large-scale events such as football matches and concerts. Of this, Rapid Rail collected fares of up to RM480,000 for operations during extended hours.

The ministry added that Rapid Rail’s gross earnings prior to audits stood at RM732.5mil.

“This comprises fares which make up RM694.8mil and non-fare costs of up to RM26.7mil,” it said in a written reply on Thursday (Jan 22).

The ministry however noted that operation costs last year stood at RM1.3bil, resulting in Rapid Rail recording a deficit of RM603mil.

It was responding to a question by Tan Hong Pin (PH-Bakri) who asked about fares collected by Rapid Rail last year alongside details on rail extension hours for events in Bukit Jalil.
