IPOH: For the coming Chinese New Year, prosperity is not just knocking – it’s galloping in!

Decorative stickers and red lanterns featuring “Choy San Yeh”, the God of Prosperity, riding majestically on a horse are flying off the shelves.

Wholesale shop owner Tan Geok Leng said the deity of wealth and fortune arriving on horseback meant riches that would come fast and strong.

“From homes to shops, these vibrant decors are lighting up the festive season, symbolising speed, success and wealth rolling in.

“So if you are still thinking about decorating, hurry up as the decorative items are depleting,” she said.

Tan said the decorative stickers are meant to be pasted on doors, walls or windows.

Another favourite this year is miniature horse soft toys in the form of key chains, figurines and coin boxes, she added.

“Figurines made from glass, plastic and other materials are also gaining popularity as decorative items to be placed on shelves or tables,” she said.

Customer Yong Foong Yee, 37, was looking for decorative stickers for her house.

“My 69-year-old mother is born in the Year of the Horse, and this year is special for us as a family,” she said.

Ivy Cheah, 73, who came with her friend Jennifer Wong, 64, said she wanted to buy cute horse-themed red packets.

“I have picked a few designs and am hoping for a healthy, wealthy and smooth-sailing year ahead,” she said.
