KUALA LUMPUR: Umno must shift its focus to securing support from urban-minded voters, says Lembah Pantai Umno chief Tengku Datuk Zuhri Tengku Abdul Aziz.
He highlighted the presence of hundreds of thousands of voters with such mindsets, even in suburban seats like Bagan Datuk and Rembau.
"We are always concerned about traditional urban seats, but are failing to look at the mindset of these voters.
"There are many areas that seem rural, but a majority of its voters live in urban areas and practice said lifestyles.
"This is not a 14-day project. Winning them over takes years, and we must start working on this now," he said when debating the president's speech at the Umno general assembly on Friday (Jan 16).
Zuhri added that Umno must be vocal when making its stance, noting that urban-minded voters would lean towards those who are brave to speak up.
"They do not vote based on goodwill or physical interactions. They want brave leaders who bring forward ideas on mediums like social media," he said.
