KUALA LUMPUR: Umno must take the first step towards national political reconciliation by reopening its doors to former leaders so they can return to the party, says Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi.

The Puteri Umno chief said a form of political peace must be initiated by Umno immediately.

"Ten prime ministers come from Umno.

"Umno must not be exclusive, the party’s doors must be opened as wide as possible to those who want to uphold our struggle or wants to be friends with us," she said in her policy speech at the Puteri Umno assembly here at World Trade Centre (WTC) KL here on Thursday (Jan 15).

This openness is Umno’s strength and what allows the party to continue to endure and grow, she said.

"Let us rebuild this 'house', a house that was once a symbol of hope and sacrifice.

"To those who wish to return, we welcome you with open hearts.

"Let us reconnect the bonds that were broken, and build our resolve and step forward for the future of the nation," she added.
