IPOH: A former welfare non-governmental organisation (NGO) chairman is facing 10 charges of misusing around RM630,000 in funds meant for humanitarian missions abroad.
Former Pertubuhan Kebajikan Serantau Muslim chairman Mohd Hakim Mohd Nor, 39, claimed trial after the charges under Section 403 of the Penal Code were read to him before Sessions judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi here on Wednesday (Jan 14).
Hakim was said to have committed the offences at banks here, in Batu Gajah and Seri Iskandar between January 2018 and December 2021.

The funds were intended for humanitarian missions to Myanmar, Yemen, Syria and Palestine.
Defense counsel Azizzul Shariman Mat Yusoff requested that the cases be transferred to the Melaka Sessions Court to be jointly heard with other matters there.
Azzizul Shariman also requested that the bail allowed in Melaka be applicable here.
Hakim had been slapped with the same charges in Kuala Lumpur and Melaka on Monday and Tuesday (Jan 12 and 13) respectively.

In Melaka, he was allowed bail of RM35,000 with one surety, with March 13 set as the next mention date.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin did not object to both requests, which were then allowed by judge Meor Sulaiman.
On June 25 last year, the media reported that the MACC had identified the chairman of an NGO in Melaka as the main suspect in a case of embezzlement amounting to RM26mil in public donations.
