KUALA LUMPUR: A special-edition gold coin featuring Wira and Manja, the sun bear mascots of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), was launched on Wednesday (Jan 14) to support the national tourism campaign.
The 24-karat coin was unveiled by Tourism Malaysia chairman Datuk Manoharan Periasamy at the SMS Deen Jewellers outlet along Jalan Masjid India here.
Datuk Manoharan said the initiative reflected the type of public-private collaboration the government hopes will continue throughout the VM2026 campaign.
Tourism Malaysia director general Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim said such partnerships were key to attracting higher tourist arrivals this year.
“This is the type of strategic collaboration encouraged by the Prime Minister under the Visit Malaysia 2026 framework. The government welcomes initiatives by private companies, especially as we prepare for higher tourist numbers this year,” he said.
He added that the gold coin could also serve as a collectable souvenir for visitors, while contributing to the growth of the local gold industry
SMS Deen Jewellers chief executive officer Mohamad Shaifudeen said the project was meant to contribute to the country, not just for commercial purposes, with the packaging featuring short stories about Malaysian culture, food and infrastructure.
“This is not just about business. It is about doing something for the country. We are proud to be given the opportunity to be part of this initiative and to support Visit Malaysia 2026,” he said.
The limited-edition 24-karat coin weighs 0.2 gram and is priced at RM199, while a foldable pack of eight coins costs RM1,599.
It is available at all SMS Deen Jewellers outlets nationwide on Wednesday (Jan 14), followed by the jeweller’s branches nationwide from Jan 19.
The coins will also be available via the company’s TikTok platform starting Thursday (Jan 15).
