RM1.5mil subsidised cooking oil haul seized

Illegal operation: One of the tankers confiscated during the raid at the warehouse in Sandakan.

KOTA KINABALU: An undocumented Pakistani man was arrested and over RM1.57mil worth of subsidised cooking oil was confiscated during a marine police raid in Sandakan.

Sandakan Marine acting commander Supt Jaffri Bidin stated that during the 12.35pm operation on Friday, officials noticed suspicious activity at a local warehouse and moved in to investigate.

“Upon inspection, we found that repacking of cooking oil was being carried out. We believe this subsidised cooking oil was being repacked illegally as export cooking oil,” he said.

Supt Jaffri noted that two tankers, a box lorry and hundreds of boxes of cooking oil were discovered at the scene.

The Pakistani national, who failed to produce any valid travel or operational documents, was taken into custody.

“We seized a total of 926 boxes of cooking oil of various brands and three trucks,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
