DPM Ahmad Zahid congratulates Aaron-Wooi Yik on Malaysia Open showing


KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi congratulated national men's doubles pair Aaron Chia dan Soh Wooi Yik on their showing at the 2026 Petronas Malaysia Open, attributing it to their unflinching determination and discipline.

He said their ability to make it to the finals showed their strong fighting spirit even though they failed to secure the title this year.

"It isn't merely a decision but a manifestation of continuous effort and maturity at the highest global level. Every step taken today is the foundation of a bigger success tomorrow.

"Carry on moving forward with confidence, rise again with stronger strength, and make this experience a catalyst to shine even brighter in the future," he posted on Facebook on Sunday (Jan 11) night.

He also voiced his support on behalf of all Malaysians for the pair, saying that everyone is proud and will always support them in their successes.

Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik lost 15-21, 21-12, 18-21 to defending champions Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae of South Korea in the final at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil. - Bernama
