GUA MUSANG: Road users along the Gua Musang-Kuala Lipis road near Kampung Lepan Jaya, which was damaged due to the Central Spine Road (LTU) Package 3D project, expressed relief after the affected stretch was fully repaired on Friday (Jan 9).
Road user Azhar Salleh, 59, said he was grateful that the cause of severe traffic congestion in the area had finally been resolved and that the road could now be used more comfortably.
"We certainly hope the authorities will always ensure this route is properly maintained, as it can pose a danger to users.
"On Friday, traffic is flowing smoothly with no congestion, but the temporary LTU Package 3BC road near Taman Wangi has yet to be repaired.
"We hope the same action will be taken as was done for the road near Kampung Lepan Jaya,” he told reporters here on Friday.
Meanwhile, ECER 1 Special Projects Unit (UPK) officer-in-charge Zulkhairi Abdul Aziz said the repair works could not be carried out earlier due to constraints in the supply of paving materials, which could not be obtained in the required quantities.
"Through cooperation between the UPK ECER 1 Road Branch of the Public Works Department (JKR) and local community leaders, the contractor eventually managed to obtain supplies from a supplier in small but sufficient quantities for use in the affected areas,” he said.
Galas state assemblyman Datuk Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim said the repair works began at about 2am and were completed four hours later.
"The contractor agreed to immediately carry out repairs in the Kampung Lepan Jaya area, which had caused vehicles to slow down due to potholes and an unpaved surface.
"Thank you to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the Works Ministry, JKR, the contractor and suppliers for taking swift action,” he said.
A Bernama check found that traffic flow in the area was smooth after the potholed and uneven road surface was fully resurfaced.
Previously, media reports said users of the Gua Musang-Kuala Lipis road claimed that the incomplete LTU Packages 3BC and 3D projects had caused unusual congestion along the route, especially during the school holiday period. — Bernama
