PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across parts of Sarawak and Sabah as well as the Federal Territory of Labuan, effective until 4pm on Thursday (Jan 8).

MetMalaysia, in a statement at 12.40pm, said the severe weather is expected to affect Sarikei (Meradong), Sibu (Sibu and Selangau), Mukah, Bintulu, Miri (Subis) and Limbang in Sarawak.

In Sabah, the warning covers Pedalaman (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Keningau and Tambunan), the entire Pantai Barat region and Kudat.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.
