Kinabatangan, Lamag polls: Roads, markets to be closed on nomination day

KINABATANGAN: Police will temporarily close roads, the farmers' market, the public market, and the pasar tamu here to ensure smooth traffic flow during the nomination and voting days for the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state by-elections.

Kinabatangan district police chief Supt Ravi Duraisamy said the roads to be closed include Jalan Dato Pengiran Galpam, which runs from in front of the Syariah Court to Simpang 3, towards Jalan Dato Malek Chua.

"During nomination day, this Saturday, the road will be closed starting at 7 am, while during voting day the same road will be closed starting at 5pm until the vote counting process is completed and the winning candidate is announced," he said in a statement here on Wednesday (Jan 7).

The Election Commission (EC) has set the voting day for both by-elections on Jan 24, while nomination and early voting will be on Jan 10 and 20, respectively.

In addition, he said the closure of public markets, farmers' markets and pasar tamu for nomination day would be implemented from 2pm on Jan 9 to 8am on Jan 11, while the same market would also be closed on Jan 23 from 2pm to 12pm on Jan 25 for voting day.

"The public is advised to plan their journeys early on the day in question by using alternative routes to avoid any inconvenience. The public is advised to comply with all instructions and provide cooperation to ensure the smooth running of the democratic process," he added.

Ravi said that for enquiries, members of the public could contact the Kinabatangan District Control Centre at 089-561890. – Bernama
