Anwar and Azizah wish Dr Mahathir a fast recovery

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail have offered their prayers for the health and speedy recovery of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is currently receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN).

“I, together with Azizah, pray for Tun Mahathir’s well-being and swift recovery, Insya-Allah,” Anwar posted on Facebook.

The former prime minister was admitted to IJN at 9.30am yesterday after reportedly falling at his residence.

His daughter Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir said the elder statesman is in fine condition.

While the matter is considered serious, she said it is not life-threatening, stressing that her father is doing well given his age.

“It is serious, but it’s not dangerous. For his age, everything is relative ... he’s fine.

“We will get a fuller statement with more details out later. We have to get all the correct terms right,” she said at the IJN lobby here, reported Bernama.

Meanwhile, his press secretary, Sufi Yusoff, in a message shared via the official Dr M Media Updates WhatsApp group, said that after medical assessment, it has been confirmed that Dr Mahathir suffered a fracture in the right hip.

“Tun is expected to be admitted for the next few weeks for treatment and observation,” he said.

He added that the 100-year-old statesman was taken to IJN by ambulance and was reported to be conscious.

“He had a fall early this (yesterday) morning, and normally that requires an observation in hospital. He fell transiting from one part of the balcony to the living room, as I was made to understand,” he said.

Sufi said an update on Dr Mahathir’s current condition will be provided after examinations by IJN specialists are completed.

Dr Mahathir was previously treated at IJN on July 13, 2025, due to fatigue, but was discharged on the same day.
