JENJAROM: The Housing and Local Government Ministry has completed 15,082 development projects nationwide under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) between 2023 and 2025, says Nga Kor Ming (pic).
The Housing and Local Government Minister said the Economy Ministry also approved 14 large-scale projects worth RM10mil and above in 2025, 10 of which involve constructing new pasar awam.
Nga said local authorities received RM904.3mil in financial assistance under operating expenditure last year, an increase that reflected the government’s commitment to strengthening implementation and monitoring at the local level.
“The rising allocation shows the local government department's role in driving inclusive, resilient and sustainable urban transformation,” he said when officiating the Sentuhan Kejayaan programme at Sungai Jarom in Jenjarom on Tuesday (Jan 6).
He added that RM700,000 had been allocated to the Kampung Angkat Madani programme under the ministry, which aims to benefit local communities and small businesses while stimulating economic activity in rural areas.
Nga said the local government department also carried out slope repair and reinforcement works involving 97 projects in 11 states, with an allocation of RM69.13mil under the 12MP. Of these, 63 projects have been completed to date.
On flood mitigation efforts, he said 145 flood hotspots nationwide were reduced in 2025 through drainage projects implemented by local councils, enhancing public safety and community well-being.
Nga also noted that the proportion of public toilets rated “Clean, Attractive and Fragrant” (BMW) has risen significantly since the ministry’s Toilet Of The Year Award initiative was introduced in 2023.
BMW-rated toilets in the private sector increased from 37% in 2022 to 59% in 2025, while those managed by local councils rose from 43% to 79% over the same period.
Nga stated that local government departments continued to enhance service delivery through initiatives like PBTPay, which facilitates online payments for assessment fees, local government licenses and compound payments.
Nga said annual collections through PBTPay was RM538mil. PBTCare, the official complaints platform for local councils, recorded 10,500 complaints and 18,230 registered users in 2025.
