JOHOR BARU: Police have successfully traced the owner of a foreign-registered vehicle alleged to have filled up with RON95 petrol by concealing the registration number plate.

Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said the individual, who holds permanent resident status, is currently in Singapore and has been instructed to report immediately to the traffic division of the Kulai district police headquarters.

The case is being investigated under Section 108(3)(e) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“We would like to advise the public not to arbitrarily alter or attempt to conceal vehicle registration numbers, as this is against the law,” he said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported.

A one-minute, 30-second video went viral on social media recently showing a vehicle bearing a Singapore registration plate being refuelled with RON95 petrol.

It was reported that the Johor branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry had carried out inspections and investigations at a petrol station following complaints and information that went viral.

Its director, Lilis Saslinda Pornomo, was quoted as saying that action was taken for allegedly violating the directive of the Controller of Supplies, namely the prohibition on the sale of RON95 petrol to foreign-registered vehicles.
