Nilai blast: Suspect harboured resentment after ex-girlfriend jilted him five years ago, say cops

SEREMBAN: The suspect behind the explosion in Desa Palma, Nilai is believed to have made the improvised explosive device (IED) because he harboured resentment towards his ex-girlfriend who left him five years ago.

Nilai police chief Supt Johari Yahya said the 62-year-old suspect often spoke about his failed relationship to a neighbour, thus reinforcing his confession.

He added that the suspect was still being questioned but not extensively as the suspect was in poor health and still receiving treatment.

"So far, 24 witnesses have recorded their statements," he said in a statement on Saturday (Jan 3).

The suspect was remanded for another seven days from Sunday (Jan 4) after his remand ended on Saturday.

Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad had previously said that the suspect behind the explosion that occurred on Dec 22 was arrested around Batang Benar, Nilai at 4.15pm on Dec 27 with burn marks on his face, body, hands and feet.

The suspect is believed to have technical knowledge of explosives after devices and equipment were found and seized from his rented house. – Bernama
