Taufiq to tour states, assess need to strengthen youth and sports development

ALOR SETAR: Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari (pic) will tour all states in the country to monitor and assess the need to strengthen grassroots youth and sports development.

The Youth and Sports Minister said the initiative began with a visit to Kedah, where feedback was gathered from youth officers to identify issues requiring action at the ministerial level.

"I also conveyed the federal government's aspirations and the need for state-level support to implement policies on sports empowerment and youth character development," he said after visiting the District Youth and Sports Complex here Monday (Dec 29).

He said similar visits to other states would help shape policies to ensure federal initiatives are effectively implemented at the state level.

He also pledged to reduce bureaucracy and expedite urgent needs in line with established guidelines.

On the controversy surrounding his use of the title "Dr", Mohammed Taufiq declined further comment, noting that the matter had been clarified by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).

"The MMC has responded. My focus now is on the ministry and delivering the government's agenda," he said.

Mohammed Taufiq, who is Sungai Petani PKR chief and deputy head of Angkatan Muda Keadilan, was recently appointed Youth and Sports Minister following a Cabinet reshuffle. - Bernama
