Sg Petani to get RM10mil sports complex

SUNGAI PETANI: A RM10mil sports complex will be built in Bandar Puteri Jaya, near here, to provide a more systematic and holistic facility for youth sports.

Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari (pic) said the project is currently at an early stage of implementation and is expected to commence soon.

“The construction of this sports complex is one of the key initiatives I have been driving since becoming the Sungai Petani MP.

“The proposed site has been identified near the Kuala Muda district information office.

“An initial allocation of RM10mil has been approved, but if there are any changes in terms of planning or implementation, further announcements will be made,” he said after officiating a mass circumcision programme at the Sungai Petani parliamentary service centre in Padang Temusu yesterday.

He said the availability of a well-equipped sports complex will better facilitate efforts to groom new athletes.

“The procurement process and other related matters are ongoing, and I will regularly monitor the progress together with the Public Works Department and other relevant parties to ensure the project is successfully implemented,” he said, Bernama reported.

At the same time, he stressed that he will continue to prioritise serving the Sungai Petani parliamentary constituency, even while carrying out his new responsibilities as a federal minister.

“I will try to make time to be with the people in Sungai Petani, and I am usually here on weekends unless there are official ministry matters in Putrajaya.

“The ministry will focus on youth development, nurturing future national leaders and empowering sports as a unifying platform, regardless of race, religion or political affiliation,” he said.
