MUAR: Security authorities and relevant agencies are continuing to monitor the tremor situation to ensure the safety and well-being of the public and surrounding areas, says Muar district officer Zainal Eran.
He said those who felt the tremor may provide information to the authorities.
"They can also submit feedback via the questionnaire issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department at https://forms.gle/CyUwHQE9LnyuWaJ37.
“Based on initial local reports, the tremor was felt in areas around Bukit Kepong, Bukit Serampang, Lenga and nearby areas bordering the Tangkak and Segamat districts,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Dec 28).
He added that no reports of fatalities, injuries, or property damage have been received so far.
Zainal also advised the public to remain calm, stay alert for accurate information from verified sources, and report any related incidents to the authorities.
Meanwhile, Bukit Kepong state assemblyman Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal confirmed receipt of information about the incident.
“It is true that a minor earthquake occurred in the Bukit Kepong state constituency.
“The tremor was felt around Felda Sri Ledang and Felda Lenga,” he said in a Facebook post.
The former Johor Mentri Besar also shared a one-minute closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording, showing the tremor at a grocery shop in Felda Sri Ledang.
The tremor was visible at the 24-second mark of the footage, when the shop interior suddenly shook, startling the occupants, who then exited to investigate the cause.
Earlier, Mentri Besar Johor confirmed that the situation is under control after a minor earthquake was detected in Bukit Kepong and Pagoh, Muar, at 8.55am on Sunday.
Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the incident posed no tsunami threat to Johor.
"Relevant agencies are closely monitoring the situation. Any new developments will be shared from time to time," he said in a statement on Sunday.
He advised the public to remain calm, avoid being near unstable structures and remain alert and obey authorities' instructions as needed.
Recently, earthquake tremors were reported in Segamat and Batu Pahat.
