Siblings among trio nabbed over series of house break-ins in Melaka

MELAKA: The police have arrested two brothers and a woman suspected of being involved in a series of house break-ins here.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the arrests were made in two separate operations carried out at antique dealer outlets within the historic city.

"The suspects comprise two brothers aged 33 and 29, as well as a 24-year-old woman believed to be the lover of one of the men,” he said on Wednesday (Dec 24).

ACP Patit said the first arrest was made at an antique dealer’s shop in Pokok Mangga, while the second arrest took place at another antique outlet along Jalan Munshi Abdullah here.

He said police seized various items believed to be linked to house break-ins, including gold plates, old coins of various currencies, mobile phones of different models, a laptop, wristwatches of assorted brands, gloves, head coverings, metal cutter, pliers, torchlight and a knife.

"Checks revealed that the older suspect has 20 prior criminal records involving criminal and drug-related offences, while the other two suspects have no previous criminal records,” he said.

ACP Patit added that further investigations revealed all three suspects are believed to be involved in 10 house break-in cases reported in the Melaka Tengah district.

All suspects have been remanded until Dec 29 to assist investigations under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and theft.
