KUALA LUMPUR: Six individuals have come forward to assist a probe into an alleged sexual assault on an 11-year-old pupil by a religious teacher.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said the police had recorded their statements.
“We are investigating further to uncover various aspects, including whether there were any other victims,” he said.
The 40-year-old religious teacher, who was arrested on Dec 19, has been remanded until Thursday.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspect had been teaching at a religious school in Kampung Pandan for 11 years and has no criminal record.
Wangsa Maju OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Lazim Ismail had said the incident was reported to the police on Dec 16.
A police investigation was initiated under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act.
In an unrelated case, a 40-year-old Indonesian domestic helper was injured after she fell down an escalator while pushing a stroller – with a two-year-old boy in it – at a shopping mall in the city.
Brickfields deputy OCPD Supt Ahmad Firdaus Mustaffa Kamal said the toddler was not seriously injured except for a minor gash on the forehead.
“The woman suffered injuries to her neck and legs. She was sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment.
“The boy was taken home by the parents after a checkup at a nearby clinic,” he said.
