Early morning blaze destroys 54 old bazaar units in Kampar


IPOH: A total of 54 old bazaar units have been destroyed in a fire along Jalan Idris in Kampung Masjid, Kampar.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department acting assistant director of operations Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said the department received an emergency call at 3.10am on Monday (Dec 22) and dispatched personnel from the Kampar, Gopeng and Tapah fire stations.

"All 54 old bazaar units were destroyed and none could be saved. We were informed that only 10 of the units were operating at the time, selling clothing, groceries and food.

"The building involved was an old single-storey wooden structure classified as Class C construction, estimated to measure 13.7m by 33.5m (45ft by 110ft).

"The extent of the damage is total, with no casualties reported," he said.

He added that the firefighting operation, involving 25 personnel and four fire engines, managed to bring the blaze under control at 7.46am. – Bernama
