Mont Kiara condo fire claims one life, investigation underway

KUALA LUMPUR: A fire at a condominium in Mont Kiara has resulted in the death of one victim.

The City Fire and Rescue Department said in a statement on Thursday (Dec 11) that the fire broke out on Wednesday night (Dec 10), engulfing a unit on the 26th floor of the building.

"Firefighting and rescue operations were carried out immediately but the team faced difficulties due to malfunctions in the building’s fire prevention system.

"The team had to use two portable water pumps and a fire engine pump to channel water to the affected unit," it said.

Firefighters found the body of a man with burns all over his body at the balcony of the unit.

The fire was successfully extinguished at 2.03am, with the blaze completely destroying the unit.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the forensics team.
