Fire claims family’s home, shop

A FAMILY in Banting was left with nothing after a fire destroyed their home and adjoining car workshop, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The fire broke out around 5pm on Monday and is believed to have been triggered by a lightning strike, according to fire department officials.

Firefighters from the Banting and Teluk Panglima Garang stations took about two hours to put out the blaze, which also destroyed eight cars in the workshop.

Shortly after the incident, Banting state assemblyman V. Papparaidu visited the family and presented them with RM1,000 in aid for their immediate needs.

He also said he would arrange temporary accommodation for the family.
