Five-year-old drowns in Lenggeng clubhouse swimming pool

SEREMBAN: A five-year-old girl was believed to have drowned while swimming in a pool with a group of friends in a clubhouse in Lenggeng near here.

State police chief Dept Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the incident happened just after noon on Saturday (Dec 6).

He said the girls were at the clubhouse for a prize-giving ceremony for a group of preschoolers.

"The victim suddenly disappeared from view while swimming and upon checking, her mother found her unconscious underwater.

"Members of the public then gave the victim CPR and rushed her to the hospital in an ambulance," he said in a statement.

DCP Alzafny said the victim was again given CPR when brought in to the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital emergency department.

"However, doctors later pronounced her brought in dead," he said.

Although the case has been classified as sudden death, the police would continue their probe under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001.
