Student from China killed in accident near JB


JOHOR BARU: A teenager was killed after his motorcycle grazed the rear tyre of a moving lorry.

Johor Baru North acting OCPD Supt Azrol Anuar Nor said the incident occurred at a bend along KM18 of the Johor Baru-Pontian road at 10.45am on Thursday (Dec 4),

"The 19-year-old victim was travelling from a shopping mall on Jalan Skudai in Taman Bukit Mewah area towards Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Skudai," he said in a statement.

Supt Azrol Anuar said the victim tried to overtake the lorry from the left side of the bend when his motorcycle grazed its tyre.

"The victim, a Chinese national studying at the UTM Skudai Campus, suffered arm and internal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics," he said.

He added that the 59-year-old lorry driver was unhurt and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless and dangerous driving.
