Senatorships renewed for three key ministers

THE three ministers whose three-year senatorships has ended will be sworn in for the second term in the Dewan Negara today.

According to the Order Paper of the Dewan Negara, the swearing-in ceremony is the first order of business for the Senate.

Sources told The Star the swearing-in ceremony will only be for the three ministers, and not for any other new senators.

“It will just be the three of them,” said a source.

The three whose term has ended are Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

They were sworn in as senators on Dec 3, 2022, in line with the formation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s Cabinet after the 15th General Election.

Earlier reports suggested that the swearing-in ceremony would take place yesterday but the Dewan Negara proceeded with the order of its business without any senators being sworn in.
