Barisan to offer transport to boost voter turnout in Sabah polls

KOTA KINABALU: Barisan Nasional is providing transportation for locals to cast their ballots in the Sabah state elections on Saturday (Nov 29) to encourage a high voter turnout, said MCA Secretary-General Datuk Chong Sin Woon.

Chong said transportation will be provided to pick up voters and bring them to district polling centres to address logistical concerns faced by locals.

"Road conditions in some villages are not so good, some voters live far from the polling station, not everyone has a car, and some places are flooded after days of rain. We will get all cars ready at district polling centres to pick up voters," he said.

Residents voting at Karamunting in Batu Sapi and Tanjong Kapor in Kudat can reach out to Barisan’s MCA if they need transport on Nov 29.

"After two weeks of campaigns, we have already distributed the number. They know where to find us," he added.

Chong said the Barisan machinery has identified their core supporters in both seats and it is crucial to ensure they cast their ballots during the polls.

MCA also urges outstation voters to come back and vote.

"We need more voices of locals to decide, especially the youth," he added.

Chong said the Sabah state polls are an opportunity for locals to voice dissatisfaction towards the government.

"We hear many complaints about road conditions and basic necessities such as water and electricity. After so many years, we are still facing the same problem. So this is the time for us to use the vote and voice out," he said.

Chong is hoping for a high voter turnout, as this would bring the necessary changes required in these constituencies.

"Don’t waste your opportunity. The next polls are after five years. MCA and Barisan need your support for a change. Especially in Tanjong Kapor. This is the first time MCA is contesting there, so a change in representation is important to bring changes," said Chong.

Barisan’s Kevin Lee Sip Kim will contest Tanjong Kapor in an 11-cornered fight while Datuk Chin Kim Hiung will compete in Karamunting in a five-cornered fight.
