MUAR: A woman was killed on the spot after she was flung out of a car that crashed into the rear of a lorry along the North-South Expressway (NSE) southbound early Monday (Nov 17).
Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azam Aziz said the incident occurred at KM134.8 near the Pagoh Rest & Relax area at about 3.15am.
“The car was driven by a 29-year-old man, while the 30-year-old victim was travelling as a passenger,” he said in a statement.
ACP Raiz Mukhliz said the driver lost control of the vehicle before it rammed into the back of the lorry, causing the car to overturn in the right lane.
The driver sustained injuries to his head and arms, while the lorry driver was unhurt.
The victim’s body was sent to Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital for a post-mortem.
ACP Raiz Mukhliz said the crash resulted in a 5km-long traffic crawl as authorities carried out cleaning and debris-clearing works.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The section covers causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, which carries a jail term of five to 10 years and a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000 upon conviction.
