Lorry fire on Elite expressway disrupts traffic

PETALING JAYA: A lorry transporting metal oxide caught fire along the Elite expressway on Saturday night (Nov 15).

Fire and Rescue department assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the distress call was received at about 9.25pm.

A total of 23 firemen from three fire stations were dispatched to the scene. The vehicle was already 80% burnt when firemen arrived.

The fire was fully extinguished by 9.25am on Sunday.

"We are in the midst of moving the vehicle to the side of the road by pushing it. We could not use a backhoe excavator as the materials in the vehicle are highly flammable.

"Metal friction between the backhoe and the lorry could cause a spark," he said.
