Public hospitals, health facilities nationwide to be equipped with EMR system by 2029

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry is targeting all 150 public hospitals and over than 3,000 primary health facilities nationwide to be equipped with the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system by 2029.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the comprehensive implementation of the EMR would be carried out in phases starting next year with 16 hospitals, followed by 25 hospitals in 2027, 46 hospitals in 2028 and 49 hospitals in 2029.

"Implementation of EMR involves two main components, namely the Cloud-based Clinical Management System (CCMS) for health clinics and the Hospital Information System (HIS) for hospitals, towards One Citizen, One Record," he told the media after attending the Jelajah Wira Madani programme here on Saturday (Nov 15).

It was held in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee Celebration of Putrajaya Hospital (HPj).

Also present was the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

According to Dzulkefly, so far, 160 health clinics nationwide have been equipped with the CCMS system, and the number is targeted to increase to 200 clinics before the end of the year.

He said by 2029, more than 3,000 primary healthcare facilities nationwide, including health clinics, maternal and child health clinics, community clinics and rural clinics, are expected to operate using the system.

"Health clinics are the backbone of the country’s primary healthcare, and this system is crucial to improving service quality at the community level,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the issue of dilapidated clinics in Sabah, Dzulkefly said efforts to rebuild and upgrade these facilities began in 2018 and continued to be strengthened.

He said RM76.28mil has been allocated to upgrade 154 health clinics and rural clinics in Sabah over three years starting in 2023.

"Among the clinics in Sabah, including health clinics and rural clinics, about 70% of the 154 facilities are close to completing their upgrades,” he said. — Bernama
