Two charged with smuggling 14 migrants into the country


KOTA BARU: Two men have been charged in the Sessions Court here with smuggling 14 Myanmar migrants into the country.

Alleged "tekong darat” (ground handlers) of smuggling activities, Mohamad Ezzaq Tasnim Roslan, 32, and Mohamad Syafiq Nazeri, 29, nodded after the charges were read out to them before judge Nik Habri Muhamad on Wednesday (Nov 12).

However, no plea was recorded.

They were jointly charged with committing the offence at a house in Kampung Paloh Rambai, Ketereh, at 4am on Oct 19.

The charge was framed under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) Act 2007, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment for up to 20 years, a fine or both if convicted.

The court set Dec 10 for mention. – Bernama
